Lawrence Galcik

Galcik

Lawrence E. Galcik, 83, of Prospect, passed away on Friday, Aug. 4, 2023, after a 10-year courageous battle with myasthenia gravis.

Born Feb. 7, 1940, in New Kensington, he was the son of the late Anthony Galcik and Ann Dubac. Larry was a 1958 graduate of Springdale High School, where he played basketball. He went on to attend Youngstown State University on a basketball scholarship and graduated with a bachelor’s in sociology.

On May 11, 1963, he married the love of his life, Marilyn Kiser. Larry and his best friend, Walter “Bubba” Kampas, owned and operated Butler Refrigerated Delivery in Harmony. He loved spending time with his brother, Frank, fishing and picking wild mushrooms. He had a passion for gardening and “growing things,” as he would say, and was meticulous in all his pursuits.

Larry absolutely loved polka music, enjoyed playing the button box accordion and dancing with his longtime partner, his wife. Above all, he cherished the time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 60 years, Marilyn J. Galcik; his children, Larry (Christie) Galcik Jr., of Prospect, Bonnie (Frank) Sciurba, of Cranberry Township, and Michele (Terry) Welter, of Meridian; and his grandchildren, Garrett, Brody, Brett, Zachary, Sara, Joseph, Joshua, Jordan, Taylor and Coleton.

In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his brothers, Tony and Frank Galcik.
