Mycal Santos Syn

Santos Syn

Mycal Santos Syn, born Neal Edward Thompson, 63, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, Oct. 25, 2026, in Wesley Chapel, Fla.

He was born Nov. 27, 1962, in Butler, to Robert E. Thompson and Florence I. Stone Thompson.

After graduating from Moniteau High School in 1981, he proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1981 to 1987. Upon completion of his military service, he worked as a maintenance engineer at several hotel and restaurant franchises in the Washington, D.C., and Tampa, Fla., metropolitan areas before retiring in January 2025.

Known affectionately to family and friends as “Ski” or “Uncle Ski,” he was an avid reader, gamer and foodie, as well as a U.S. military history and science fiction buff. He also enjoyed listening (very loudly) to classic rock, going on trips and cruises with family and friends, taking care of his pampered pet cats, and greeting loved ones with his favorite (but still optional to the “lucky” recipients) “Biggie Hugs!”

Mycal, born Neal, is survived by his husband, Robert Gines Syn Santos, of Wesley Chapel, Fla.; his mother, Florence I. Thompson, of West Sunbury; his sisters, Cheryl (Tom) Cherry, of Freeport, and Terri (Rick) Wagner, of West Sunbury; brothers, Bret (Melissa) Thompson, of Huntsville, Texas, and Vernon (Linda) Thompson, of West Sunbury; along with numerous loving nephews, nieces and grandnieces.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert E. Thompson; and his brothers, Darryl, Keith and Curtis.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all of the caregivers and friends who supported him with unwavering love and compassion during his final days. “What we have once enjoyed deeply we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes part of us.” — Helen Keller
