Shirley Ann “Sis” McCandless, 82, passed away on Friday, July 28, 2023, at her residence in Renfrew.

She was born on July 26, 1941, in Butler, to the late Lloyd “Pete” Kline and the late Gladys Irene (Reges) Kline. Shirley was known for her affectionate personality and immense love for family and friends.

She was a proud member of the community and took an active part in many social and cultural organizations, including the Oneida Valley Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, the Tamarack Cloggers and the Lyndora Bugle Corps. Shirley also enjoyed being a part of the Butler Two Steppers and Keystone Squares. She was a member and greeter at Community Alliance Church.

Shirley had a successful career at Saxonburg Ceramics. She was a passionate bowler and was in two bowling leagues with her husband — the Armco League and the Casino League. Her love for traveling, camping and cruising with family and friends was well-known among her loved ones.

She is survived by her son, Robert W. (Pamela) McCandless II; her grandson, Robert W. McCandless III; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert W. McCandless, whom she married on Sept. 16, 1961, and who passed away on Sept. 4, 2020; and her two brothers, Robert B. Kline and Larry Lee Kline.

MCCANDLESS — Visitation for Shirley Ann “Sis” McCandless, who died Friday, July 28, 2023, will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 124 E. North St., Butler.

The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Community Alliance Church, 800 Mercer Road, Butler, with the Rev. Dr. Denny Krajacic officiating.

Burial will be at Greenlawn Burial Estates.

Memorial donations may be made to Community Alliance Church, 800 Mercer Road, Butler, PA 16001.
