Robert Frederick “Fred” Hunt, 90, of Cabot, passed away at Concordia on Tuesday, July 25, 2023.

He was born Sept. 26, 1932, in Ann Arbor, Mich., to the late Dr. Robert E. Hunt and the late Katherine Rachel McDonald.

Mr. Hunt was a graduate of Butler High School Class of 1951. He attended Washington and Jefferson College in Washington, Pa. and earned his Bachelor of Science degree. He served in the U.S. Navy in Italy, receiving an honorable discharge in 1961. He later worked at Baxter Laboratories and then Abbott Laboratories in North Chicago, Ill., until his retirement in 1993.

In 1997, when Fred and wife Diana moved to the Butler area, they became members of Christ Community United Methodist Church. In 2009 when they moved to Concordia, they joined Zion United Methodist Church in Sarver. Throughout his church service, Fred was active in the Stephen Ministries, taught Sunday school with Diana, sang in the men’s choir and was a regular volunteer at the food pantry. Fred was an avid nature photographer and developed many of his own pictures in his dark room. He also enjoyed traveling, writing, bowling, learning to play the piano and carpentry work, especially remodeling projects.

He is survived by two sons, Robert T. (Jeanna) Hunt, of Butler and Brian E. Hunt, of Henderson, Ky.; a daughter, Katherine A. (Nicholas) Hunt; 10 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a sister, Katherine Rapp, of Butler; a sister-in-law, Barbara A. Aaron, of Madison, Wis.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by his wife, Diana Hunt; his brother, J. Steve Hunt; his stepmother, Orma Hunt; and his daughter-in-law, Dorrell Hunt.

HUNT — Friends of Robert Frederick “Fred” Hunt, who died Tuesday, July 25, 2023, will be received from 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday at THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 124 E. North St., Butler.

Funeral Services will immediately follow at 3 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor David Janz officiating.

Private burial will take place in Slippery Rock Cemetery.
