Mary Pia DeMatteis, 86, of Buffalo, N.Y., formerly of Butler, passed away July 12 in New York.

She was born Dec. 23, 1921, in Yatesboro, a daughter of the late Gesualdo and Onorina DeMatteis.

Mary was employed by the U.S. Government and worked at the American Embassy in Rome, Italy. She retired in 1988.

She was a Roman Catholic.

She is survived by a brother, Romeo Richard DeMatteis of Butler; and a sister, Angela DeMatteis of New York.
