Mary Ellen Yon
Mary Ellen Yon, 87, of The Orchard, North Main Street Extension, Butler, formerly of Olive Street, died Saturday evening at the Good Samaritan Hospice at Concordia in Cabot.
She was born in Butler, Sept, 29, 1922, a daughter of the late Robert and Agnes Wiest Crawford.
A 1939 graduate of Butler High School, she had worked as a teacher's aide at the Butler Catholic School for 22 years.
A member of the St. Peter Catholic Church in Butler and the Women's Council of St. Peter's, she was a 50-year member of the Catholic Daughters of America, Butler Court; a member of the Tanglewood Center, and a former member of the Butler Moose Auxiliary.
Mary Ellen had enjoyed golf and was a member of the former Armco Country Club for more than 30 years. She also loved to play cards and had been part of several local card club groups and was a former bowler in the duck pin leagues at the Knight of Columbus building.
She was the widow of Fred M. Yon. They had married Nov. 9, 1943, and he died April 16, 1983. She also was preceded in death by three brothers, Gerald Crawford Sr., Robert Crawford and Ralph Crawford.
Surviving are three sons and their spouses, Frederick and Diane Yon of Margate, Fla., and Gerald and Margaret Yon and David and Vicki Yon, all of Butler; a daughter, Marilyn (Daniel Jr.) Catalfano of Butler; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Crawford of Butler and Mary Crawford of Philadelphia; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
<B>YON </B>—<B> </B>Friends of Mary Ellen Yon, who died Saturday, March 6, 2010, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter Catholic Church, 127 Franklin St., Butler. The Rev. Jack Nanz will officiate. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Butler.Members of the Butler Court of the Catholic Daughters of America will recite the rosary at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
