Charles W. Davis, 85, of New Bern, N.C., died at his home Wednesday after an extended illness.

He was born in Bigler, Clearfield County, Oct. 6, 1924, and was the son of the late Lytton and Irene (Weaver) Davis.

He was an Army veteran and served in Europe during World War II.

Mr. Davis was a salesman for Ecolab Inc. for more than 30 years and had been retired since 1987.

He enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his companion of 21 years, Joanne Doles of New Bern, N.C.; two daughters, Kathleen Davis of Etters, York County, and Phyllis (Patrick) Smith of Charlotte, N.C.; two sons, Mark (Debbie) Davis of Warrenton, Va., and Scott (Lynn) Davis of Raleigh, N.C.; a daughter-in-law, Joyce Davis of Cortland, Ohio; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 41 years, Elaine (Daley) Davis; one brother, William Davis; one sister, Phyllis Palmer; two sons, William "Bill" and Charles "Joe" Davis; one daughter-in-law, Linda Herrit Davis; and one granddaughter, Kimberly Davis.
