Pauline “Polly” A. Hahn

Pauline “Polly” A. Hahn

Pauline “Polly” A. Hahn, 92, of Cranberry Township passed away peacefully Friday just two months short of her 93rd birthday.

She was born in Syracuse, N.Y., and was lovingly raised there from infancy by her beloved grandparents, Theresa and Harvey Rainbow. In July 1947, she married Anthony Hahn, to whom she was married for almost 36 years until his death in June 1983. In addition to her grandparents and husband, Polly was preceded in death by her parents, Catherine and Harry Rainbow; her son, Daniel Hahn; her granddaughter, Shanna Hahn and her daughter-in-law, Gloria Hahn.

She is survived by daughters, Terry Hahn of East Providence, R.I., and Kate Hahn of Cranberry Township; her sons, Tony Hahn of Newark, Del., and Steve (Rita) Hahn of Harmony; her grandchildren, Mike, Mark and Krista Hahn and Sarah Babusci; her great-grandchildren, Bryana, Ava and Elena Hahn, Brian McMahon and Julia and Mia Babusci; and several nieces and nephews.

Polly was a telephone operator for several years after high school until she had children, and it was a job she loved and where she met many of her life-long friends. For most of her married life she was a homemaker and raised her children, living in several cities in New York, Pennsylvania and Ohio.

In 1971, she and her husband moved to Zelienople, where they established the former Ben Franklin Store in the current Bi-Lo Plaza, the first large variety store in the area. They also owned the Casual Male clothing store in the same plaza and Polly enjoyed working there as a saleswoman for several years.

In 1972, they moved to Cranberry Township. She volunteered for many years on the Funeral Luncheon Committee of St. Ferdinand's Church. Noted for only being able to make fudge and chocolate cake when she got married, Polly later became a wonderful cook and baker. She was very social and had a love of meeting people, with a natural ability for talking with anyone and everyone; her close friendships were many and endured lifetimes.

She was a devoted Pittsburgh Penguins fan, enjoyed trying new restaurants, loved to drive and explore new routes (“let's see where this road goes”) and had a passion for travel. Her biggest passions were chocolate and reading, and she could never have too much of either.
