‘Deadliest days for teen drivers’ to continue through Labor Day
According to AAA, an average of seven people are killed per day in teen driver-related crashes between Memorial Day and Labor Day nationwide. The summer months between the holidays make up what are unofficially known as the deadliest days for teen drivers.
Risk factors, such as driving at night, speeding, texting while driving or driving under the influence are greater during this time because summer offers more unstructured time on the road, according to AAA.
Last year, approximately 42,795 people died in motor vehicle traffic crashes nationwide, projected statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration show.
Reports from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation indicate that there were no fatal crashes involving teen drivers in Butler County from 2018 to 2021. By contrast, alcohol, drugs and impaired driving were the leading factors in fatal crashes in the county.
