9:32 a.m. Sunday — APittsburgh man faces felony drug charges after police got a call about him sleeping in the entrance of the Terrace Apartments on South Cliff Street.The sleepy suspect, 44-year-old James Irwin, got a rude awakening when officers allegedly found him with 47 stamp bags of suspected heroin, 8 grams of suspected crack cocaine and other drug-related contraband.Irwin is charged with two counts each of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance. He also is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.1 a.m. Saturday — Police were called and found the carcass of a pit bull puppy discarded in a Dumpster at a Wick Street apartment building. Police noted the animal appeared "emaciated" and had been placed in a blanket.Officers described the puppy as mostly black with a patch of white on its stomach. Anyone with information about the dog's owner or the case is asked to call police at 724-287-7743.
9:55 p.m. Sunday — Asport utility vehicle driven by Ronald Novosel, 58, of Butler drove over a patch of ice and struck a tree along Mahood Road in Clay Township.8:30 p.m. Sunday—Nicholas E. Duffy, 23, of Conneaut Lake, Crawford County, was cited for driving too fast for conditions after his car struck a tree and road sign along Lions Road in Center Township.2:40 a.m. Sunday — Dustin Libecco, 23, of Karns City was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence on Buena Vista Road in Fairview Township.Sunday — An amplifier and head set were stolen from a vehicle in a parking lot outside the Eat 'n Park restaurant at Clearview Mall, Center Township. The theft occurred between 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.3:05 a.m. Saturday — Vickie Marie Bennett, 43, of West Sunbury was arrested for driving under the influence at Route 38 and Glenwood Way in Center Township. In addition to DUI, Bennett also was cited for a lane violation and careless driving.
2:45 a.m. Sunday — Butch Andrew Wiencek, 23, of Parker was arrested for driving under the influence after his car crashed into a snow-covered yard, rolled onto its roof and hit a utility pole along Route 68 in Toby Township.Police said Wiencek, who was wearing a seat belt and suffered a minor injury, walked away from the crash. Police found him nearby walking on Route 68 near Curllsville Road.Police said Wiencek, in addition to DUI, is charged with resisting arrest. He also was cited for driving without a license, driving too fast for conditions, driving on the wrong side of the road, careless driving, a lane violation and failing to immediately notify police of an accident.The defendant, meanwhile, was arraigned Monday on charges stemming from an unrelated theft case that police filed Feb. 3. In addition to theft, Wiencek is charged in that case with receiving stolen property, criminal mischief and conspiracy.He remains in the Clarion County Jail on $6,500 bail.
7:37 a.m. Feb. 3 — Atractor-trailer driven by James C. Burk II, 31, of Mercer struck a car after swerving to avoid an unidentified milk truck that turned in front of the rig at Route 422 and Mushroom Farm Road in West Franklin Township.The car, driven by Robert E. Slee, 56, of Templeton, was behind the milk truck.Police said Burk continued driving for another mile or so until he stopped. He faces charges for hit and run and other traffic violations.Police, meanwhile, ask that anyone who knows the identity of the milk truck to call the barracks at 724-543-2011.9:35 p.m. Dec. 16 — Trina Marie English, 53, of Butler was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence on Route 28 in Springdale Township, Allegheny County.
1:53 p.m. Friday — Police are seeking an unknown hit-and-run driver who caused a three-vehicle crash at George Junior Road and Route 58 in Pine Township.The crash occurred when an unidentified red Ford F-150 pickup truck struck a car driven by Kyle T. Walter, 21, of Harrisville. The collision forced the car into a sport utility vehicle driven by Lou Handerhan, 52, of Sharpsville.Police said the pickup, driven by a white male, was last seen traveling north on George Junior Road. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call police at 724-662-6162.
4:30 p.m. Jan. 22 — Acar driven by David L. Swatsworth, 17, of Hilliards struck the rear of a sport utility vehicle on Route 108 near Elliott Lane in Plain Grove Township. Police said Swatsworth was cited for driving too fast for conditions. Douglas E. Pander, 23, of New Castle was driving the SUV.
