Band changes name, playing bigger venues

The rock band Trevolta, formerly known as This Is The World, will perform Tuesday at the Hard Rock Café in Pittsburgh.

The trio of Knoch High School students consists of Jesse Ort on lead guitar and vocals, Austin Zarnick adding bass, and Jason Brahler playing percussion.

Jesse and Jason are going into 11th-grade and Austin into 10th-grade.

They list their musical influences as rock ’n’ roll legends such as KISS, Queen, Led Zeppelin and YES as well as psychedelic rockers like Pink Floyd.

The group changed its name recently on the advice of Matt Muckle.

Muckle is a professional drummer, recording producer and songwriter with a history in rock music in Los Angeles and Pittsburgh.

“He recommended the band name change,” said Sean Zarnick, Austin’s dad who serves as the band’s manager. “He mentioned the current name was too long and too hard for the public to remember.”

The band discussed a new name that would have a ’70s-rock style, because that’s what they play.

Muckle suggested the name, Trevolta.

“To me, the name first made me think of John Travolta, which engraved a vision in my head. So when I mention the name Trevolta to others, I say think of John Travolta, but with an E instead,” said Sean Zarnick.

“If the public is over the age of 30 and know of John Travolta,” Zarnick said, they won’t forget the band’s new name.

Along with that new name, the three-piece rock band has matured, too, since its start in 2016, into playing new and bigger events and venues.

In the past they’ve played at places like the Grove City Community Center and the Mars Apple Festival and the backyard stage at the Zarnick household.

This year, the band has already completed appearances at the Millvale Music Festival, a Grove City arts and crafts show, and Market Square in Pittsburgh.

In addition to the 8 p.m. show at the Hard Rock Café, upcoming events include performances July 12 at Michelle Krill Field at Historic Pullman Park; July 13 at the Deutschtown Festival, a music festival on the North Side of Pittsburgh; and Aug. 6 at the Butler Farm Show.

The group is also working weekly — with Muckle for guidance — to facilitate the release of a studio album.

Zarnick said all of the parents are “100 percent involved” and always show up for the events. He and Jesse’s dad Mark Ort take care of most of the music business work, with Zarnick as the manager and Ort handling the website and serving as band photographer.

Tickets for the Tuesday show are $12 in advance; call 724-712-9204 or visit www.trevoltamusic.com.
