Seneca students’ wise ‘investments’ earn a win
Seneca Valley eighth-graders in Kayla Robinson’s personal development classes took home the gold at the Stock Market Game, held recently at Butler County Community College, according to Seneca Valley.
The Stock Market Game is an online simulation of the global capital markets that engages students in grades four through 12 in the world of economics, investing and personal finance.
Students in BC3’s game receive a hypothetical $100,000, make buy-and-trade decisions and track how those decisions would have played out in the market if real.
One Seneca Valley team won first place statewide and placed first in the region with an equity of $125,404.
Another Seneca team placed third statewide and in the region with an equity of $122,482.
“The students enjoy participating in The Stock Market Game, thanks to BC3,” said Robinson. “They like being given a sum of money that they get to invest based on their own opinions and what we have learned in class.”
The Stock Market Game is presented by the Foundation for Free Enterprise, whose mission is to heighten the awareness of Pennsylvania’s youth regarding their future role in the American free enterprise system by delivering high-quality and practical hands-on learning experiences.
“It is a great hands-on experience for them to see how investing works,” Robinson said.
