George D. 'Ebbie' Eberhardt
George D. "Ebbie" Eberhardt, 84, of Butler died at 4:10 p.m. Thursday at Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born Sept. 4, 1924, in Butler, he was the son of Brandon Eberhardt and the late Virginia Yockey Eberhardt.
Mr. Eberhardt was a salesman for Burlington Industries, retiring in 1985.
He was a member of St. Fidelis Roman Catholic Church in Lyndora.
Mr. Eberhardt graduated from the Pittsburgh Institute School of Mortuary Science in Pittsburgh.
Mr. Eberhardt was a member of the 272 Butler Lodge F&AM, Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of New Castle, and the Syria Temple of Pittsburgh.
He was a veteran of the Army with the rank of corporal, serving during World Word II in the European Theater. Mr. Eberhardt was a member of the VFW Post 249, American Legion 778 of Lyndora, Butler Elks Lodge 170, NRA, and the AARP.
Mr. Eberhardt also was a member of the United Commercial Travelers of America Butler Council 464.
He enjoyed golf, baseball and woodworking.
Mr. Eberhardt is survived by his wife, Dorothy J. Clossin Eberhardt, whom he married April 12, 1947; two sons, George Eberhardt II and his wife, Cathy, of Louisville, Ky., Paul Eberhardt and his wife, Martha, of Wexford; two grandsons, Keith Eberhardt and his wife, Catina, of Louisville, Ky., and Kevin Eberhardt and his wife, Linda, of Cincinnati; a granddaughter, Christy Runyan and her husband, Brian, of Louisville, Ky.; four great-grandchildren, Kaden Eberhardt, Christian Eberhardt, Dylan Eberhardt and Bradley James Eberhardt; and by three nieces and three nephews.
Mr. Eberhardt was preceded in death by a sister, a brother and a nephew.
