2:38 a.m. today — Stanley C. Smith, 29, of Butler was charged with bad checks after a check he wrote Feb. 5 for $49.25 at Benjamin Beetle on Main Street was returned for insufficient funds.10:36 p.m. Sunday — Jennifer N. Cowan, 23, of Butler was charged with driving without a license and arrested on a warrant from the Butler County Sheriff's Office following a traffic stop on Mercer Street.Her passenger, the vehicle's owner, Gregory A. Andre, 37, of Butler, was charged with failure to carry insurance and unauthorized transfer or use of registration after police discovered the license plate on the car did not belong to Andre.8:27 p.m. Sunday — Thomas J. Cipolla Jr., 27, of Butler was charged with possession of a controlled substance following a traffic stop along West Quarry Street. Cipolla also was wanted on a warrant from the Butler County Sheriff's Office.9:14 a.m. Friday — James Matuke, 21, of Butler was charged with simple assault and possession of a small amount of marijuana after police responded to a dispute at the corner of Main and Vogely streets.12:15 a.m. Friday — Jared A. Alwine, 26, of Butler was charged with DUI, DUI highest rate of alcohol and careless driving after the SUV he was driving crashed into an embankment on the 800 block of North McKean Street. Alwine was not injured.

1:10 a.m. Sunday — A pickup driven by Christopher F. Parker, 18, of Butler and a van driven by Dennis J. Gibson, 33, of Butler collided at the intersection of South Duffy and New Castle roads. Female passengers in both vehicles were treated for injuries at Butler Memorial Hospital. Parker was cited for failure to obey flashing signals.11:38 p.m. Saturday — Lucas B. McMillen, 30, of Kittanning was charged with DUI and making an illegal left turn following a traffic stop on North Main Street.11:26 p.m. Saturday — Kenneth Milligan, 54, of Fenelton was charged with DUI and several traffic violations following a traffic stop on North Main Street. He allegedly made an illegal left turn and operated a vehicle without functional taillights.2 p.m. Thursday — A 12-year-old female student at Meridian Elementary School was charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia after she allegedly had marijuana hidden in her clothes at school.8:14 p.m. Wednesday — Robert Thomas, 70, of Butler was charged with DUI and several traffic violations after he allegedly backed his vehicle into a vehicle driven by Frankie Kern, 55, of Butler in the parking lot of Good Guys on Whitestown Road. No injuries were reported.

2:56 a.m. Saturday — Kristian L. Rearick, 38, of Butler was charged with driving on roads laned for traffic, driving at unsafe speed, duty to give information and render aid, accidents involving damage to property and failure to immediately notify police of an accident after the pickup he was driving crashed into a utility pole along Route 68 in Donegal Township and he allegedly fled the scene. Rearick was not injured.Friday — Someone stole scrap metal belonging to Tom Ivinson from a property along Evans City Park Road in Forward Township.1:30 p.m. Thursday — Alicia M. Gregg, 24, of Butler was charged with burglary and theft after she allegedly used a hidden spare key to enter her mother's home, and allegedly stole a Sony PlayStation III and four games valued at $410, which she then sold to the Game Stop in New Castle for $163.Robert R. Bollinger, 21, of Hillsville, Pa., was charged with receiving stolen property after he and Gregg each were identified by video surveillance from the store.
