Joseph F. "Gabby" Lucas Sr., 94, of Butler passed away Monday at the Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Born in Freeport, July 18, 1914, he was the son of the late Andrew and Aurelia Lucchesi Lucas.

He retired from Butler Armco in 1977 after 25 years.

He pitched softball in the Butler area for more than 25 years and he was a founding member of the Butler Bocce Association. He was an avid bocce player, fisherman, golfer and dancer.

Mr. Lucas was a former member of the Butler Notables Barbershop Quartet, and he also performed in many musical productions in the 1950s.

He was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, the 55 and Alive of St Michael's and sang in the choir at St Michael's.

He also belonged to the Knights of Columbus and the Second Half Club of St. Paul's. He was the former president of the Senior Golf League at Stoughton Acres.

He is survived by two sons, Joseph F. Lucas Jr. and his wife, Sandy, of Butler and David A. Lucas of Boulder, Colo.; one brother, William Lucas of Butler; one sister, Mrs. Alice Mustello of Butler; five grandchildren, Jolene M. Monteleone of Butler, Vincent D. Lucas and his wife, Jill, of Kinnelon, N.J., Zach Lucas of Boulder, Matt Lucas of Boulder and Natalie Lucas of Boulder; and four great-grandchildren, Julianna Monteleone of Butler, Kaden Monteleone of Butler, Chiara Lucas of Kinnelon and Lex Lucas of Kinnelon.

<B>LUCAS</B> — Friends of Joseph F. "Gabby" Lucas Sr., who died Monday, Dec. 29, 2008, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the <B>Martin Funeral Home</B>, 429 Center Ave. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic. Church with the Rev. Father James Dolan, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the St. Michael Cemetery.The Bereavement Group of St. Michael the Archangel Parish will conduct a scriptural wake service at 3 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Members of the Knights of Columbus will meet at 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home to recite the rosary.Information also is available at www.martinfh.net.
