Brown wins again in harness racing
WASHINGTON, Pa. — Slippery Rock resident Brady Brown continued his long run of success in harness racing, driving American Beachbabe to victory during Thursday’s card at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows.
The 4-year-old mare captured a $6,700 Conditioned Pace in 1 minute, 56.4 seconds.
Mars’ Sfanos earns all-state berth
ADAMS TWP — Mars senior Tasso Sfanos has been named Pa. Class 5A All-State second team in boys basketball.
Sfanos led the Planets to the second round of the PIAA tournament this season. He was a four-year varsity player. He was also named first team all-section and was the Butler Eagle’s Co-Player of the Year.
SRU tennis honored on PSAC West team
SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University women’s tennis coach Matt Meredith has been named PSAC West Coach of the Year for the eighth time in his career.
Meredith led The Rock to a 16-9 overall record this season — 6-2 in the PSAC — and SRU was runner-up in the PSAC Championships.
SRU’s Dari Sakhanova was named Freshman of the Year after finishing 14-7 this season, 5-1 at No. 3 singles. Rock senior Adriana Gonzalez Sanchez and junior Gabriela del Val del Toro were named first team All-PSAC West in singles. Butler graduate Teddi Isherwood and Gonzalez Sanchez made first team in doubles.
