Marlu J. McCoy, 73, of Metzger Avenue died Sunday at Butler Memorial Hospital.

She was born March 13, 1936, in Johnstown, a daughter of the late Luther and Marge Evanisko Grening.

Marlu was a graduate of Oil City High School. She earned her degree in elementary education at Allegheny College in 1958. She continued her education at Indiana (Pa.) University, where she earned her master's degree in education.

She taught elementary students first at Gay Street School, part of the Oil City schools; and later at Rowan Elementary School in the former Southwest Butler County School District; and taught physically handicapped students at Connoquenessing School for a year. She was an elementary school teacher at Center Township School from 1969 until her retirement in 1993.

She was a volunteer at the Holy Cross Hospital Auxiliary in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., where she and her husband spend their winters.

Her husband, Ronald M. McCoy, who she married June 29, 1963, survives her. Also surviving are her children and their spouses, Mark and Sue McCoy of Sebastian, Fla., and Ronna and Todd Moore of Massillion, Ohio; two beloved grandchildren, Alec and Aligayle Moore; and two sisters and their husbands, Phyllis "Herk" Johnson and Gerald Johnson of Massillion, Ohio, and Gayle and Harry Hoffman of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Several nieces and nephews also survive her.

<B>MCCOY </B>—<B> </B>Friends Marlu J. McCoy, who died Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. The Rev. Alan Toberman, pastor of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church, will officiate.
