J. Leroy Montgomery
J. Leroy Montgomery, 99, of Prairie Street, Harrisville, died at 11 a.m. Wednesday at his home. He was a lifelong resident of the Harrisville area.
Born in Grove City, Jan. 30, 1909, he was the son of Andrew Montgomery and Bertha (Welton) Montgomery.
A 1928 graduate of Harrisville High School, he owned the Montgomery Block plant of Harrisville, where he worked from 1935 to 1973, when he retired. He also worked at Cooper-Bessemer in Grove City as a machinist from 1928 to 1945.
He was a member of the Harmony Presbyterian Church, Harrisville, where he was a former trustee.
He was the last surviving charter member of the Harrisville Lions Club. He also was a member of the Grove City Lodge 603 F&AM, the New Castle Consistory and the Syria Shrine.
He was an avid bowler for more than 40 years and an avid hunter. He also was an avid traveler and had visited all the states but Alaska. He was a former member of the Grove City Sportsman's Club.
He married Sarah M. (Renick) Montgomery May 28, 1941. She died April 8, 1981.
Surviving are a daughter, Cheryl Dee Strader of Harrisville; two grandchildren, Kimberly A. Bromley of West Chester and Douglas A. Strader and his wife, Theresa, of Baltimore; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Dorothy Hoffmann of Grove City.
In addition to his parents and wife, two sisters preceded him in death.
<B>MONTGOMERY </B>— Friends of J. Leroy Montgomery, who died Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2008, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the <B>Jamison Funeral Home</B>, 117 N. Main St., Harrisville. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Kirk A. Erwin of Harmony Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will be at Prairie Cemetery, Harrisville.A Lions service will be conducted at 3:45 p.m. Sunday at the funeral Home. A Masonic service will be conducted at 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.At the request of the family, memorials may be made to the Harrisville Lions Club, 219 Browntown Road, Harrisville, PA 16038.
