Cranberry Township man sentenced to probation in sexual assault cases

A Cranberry Township man was sentenced Thursday, April 27, to serve a lengthy term of probation and register with state police as a sexual offender after pleading guilty in two sexual assault cases.

Tyler Ira Wright, 22, was sentenced in Butler County Common Pleas Court to serve 120 months of probation including 12 months of house arrest and to comply with conditions of the county probation office’s sexual offender program after pleading guilty to a felony charge of statutory sexual assault.

In a second case, Wright was given a concurrent sentence of 84 months of probation and ordered to register with state police for 25 years as a Tier 2 sexual offender under Megan’s Law after pleading guilty to a felony charge of unlawful contact with a minor.

Zelienople police filed charges against Wright in both cases on March 13, 2022.

Defense attorney Jeffrey Paul Myers told Judge Timothy McCune that both incidents occurred on Wright’s 21st birthday and involved alcohol abuse.

He said Wright had no previous criminal record and has a learning disability, but was attending a technical college at the time of the incidents. He said Wright has been attending weekly sexual offender treatment.

Police said Wright had sex with a 14-year-old girl in one case and inappropriately touched a 13-year-old girl in his vehicle in the second case.

McCune ordered Wright to report to state police twice a year, and provide information about his employment, school, vehicles, email address, phone number, internet identification, and provide fingerprints and DNA samples.
