Council, business owner discuss traffic-flow change
On Monday night, Mars businessman Brian Cooper asked members of the borough council to consider allowing for a change in traffic flow on parts of Duncan Alley.
Cooper's business, Salvaged PGH, sits at the corner of Grand Avenue and Duncan Alley. The alley is a one-way street heading toward Crowe Avenue. In the past, the borough council has approved temporary two-way traffic for special events.
Cooper said altering the traffic flow permanently would not only help his customers and business, but also other drivers using Crowe Avenue.
“It's a lot of opportunity, I think, for the borough,” Cooper said.
Mike Fleming, council president, said PennDOT controls Crowe Avenue, which is Route 3015. Because Duncan Alley traffic feeds into Crowe Avenue, Fleming said, the state would ultimately make any future traffic decisions.
“It's really a discussion for PennDOT,” Fleming said. “Unfortunately it's beyond our jurisdiction.”
Cooper asked how to go about getting PennDOT involved in a discussion about changes to traffic flow. Fleming suggested Cooper try contacting the District 10 office.
“I'll start the process,” Cooper said.
