Man charged after Butler Township apartment owner terrorized
A Butler man who claimed to be under the influence of drugs was invited into a Butler Township home and terrorized the owner, according to charges filed Monday, April 24.
Township police accused Titus I. Wright, 30, of felony criminal trespassing, misdemeanors criminal mischief and disorderly conduct and summaries public drunkenness and harassment for the Sunday, April 23, incident.
Police said that around 9:30 p.m., a resident of Litman Grove Lane heard a man yelling for help outside her apartment. She said the man, later identified as Wright, told her he jumped from a moving car.
The resident told 911 dispatchers she did not know Wright, who then took the phone, told dispatchers who he was, and hung up.
When police arrived on scene, the resident was seen running from the house, screaming, with Wright behind her.
Officers took Wright into custody without incident. He advised them that he was on cocaine and meth, and continued to speak incoherently.
The resident told police she invited Wright into her apartment because she thought he needed help. He then began acting strangely, according to her statement.
Police said the resident called dispatchers, who told her to secure herself in a room apart from Wright. She advised him to stay downstairs, locking herself in an upstairs bedroom and barricading the door.
The resident told officers Wright broke down the door, knocking the lock and side frame off. He then grabbed the resident by the shoulders and led her downstairs. Police said they arrived as the resident ran from the house.
The estimated cost of the damage to the home was $500, according to charging documents.
Wright was placed in Butler County Prison following the incident, in lieu of $15,000 bail. His preliminary hearing before District Judge Kevin O’Donnell is scheduled Thursday, April 27.
