3rd felony trepass suspect arrested
Butler police have charged a third person with breaking into a vacant Third Avenue house on Thursday.
Kenneth Michael Lipscomb, 44, of Clearfield Township was arrested Friday on a felony trespass charge. He is being held in the Butler County Prison on $50,000 bail.
Police a day earlier arrested Ronald L. Tejchman, 33, and Nikki Jo Haynes, 33, both of Butler Township, after officers found the couple inside the same house.
Tejchman and Haynes also are in the county prison $50,000 bail each. Both are charged with felony trespass. Haynes, too, is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.
Officers initially found Lipscomb about 7:30 p.m. Thursday outside a business in the 300 block of North Main Street. Police said they caught him using an electrical outlet to charge his cell phone.
He appeared impaired by drugs, a police report said, and a search of a black attaché case he had turned up a used syringe and a metal spoon with suspected heroin residue.
Police said Lipscomb, who also had with him a gray gym bag, faces a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia in that incident.
About two hours later, police were called to the home on Third Avenue for a report of someone trying to break in.
Officers got there about 9:50 p.m. and found the back door ajar.
No one was in the house but police found a black attaché case and gray gym bag on the living room floor. Inside the case was Lipscomb’s driver’s license.
While officers recognized the case and bag as belonging to the defendant, they also knew he had a connection to the house.
Earlier Thursday, police had spoken to the homeowner, who does not live in the city, reporting that his wife had been at the house that day and found fresh food in the refrigerator.
The owner told police that he recently bought the house and it was supposed to be vacant. No one, he said, had permission to be there.
At the time, he told police that Lipscomb, his wife’s uncle, had previously been doing remodeling work at the home. But the owner, who suspected the defendant was stealing from him, banned him from the property, documents said.
Following the call, two officers went to the home shortly before 6 p.m. They repeatedly knocked on the door but got no answer. Eventually, the officers went inside and found Tejchman and Haynes in the living room.
The couple claimed someone they knew as “Mike” gave them permission to be there.
Police arrested and searched both suspects. In Haynes’ purse, police found a used syringe and two crack pipes, documents said.
District Judge Sue Haggerty arraigned Tejchman and Haynes on Friday morning. She arraigned Lipscomb on Friday night.
