[naviga:h3]Great Fall Cleanup coming Saturday[/naviga:h3]

The Great Fall Cleanup will be held from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday on Main Street in Butler.

The event, run by Butler Downtown and the city’s Shade Tree Commission, will also include volunteers from the Penn Theater Performance Company.

Volunteers will meet at the city-owned parking lot in the 200 block of North Main Street across from Burger Hut.

They will be picking up trash, sweeping sidewalks and pulling weeds. Volunteers are encouraged to bring gloves, garden tools, buckets, brooms and dustpans.

If it rains, the makeup day will be Sunday.

CRANBERRY TWP — Cranberry Township EMS saw an increase in inspections at its fall car seat check event Saturday.

Ted Fessides, deputy chief of administration at Cranberry EMS, said technicians did 42 car seat checks this year. Fessides said they typically average 24 checks a year.

This was the first year the state police and the Cranberry Township EMS combined their fall car seat checks, Fessides said. Both groups had certified car seat safety technicians inspecting car seats and checking how they are secured in vehicles from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Cranberry Township EMS station on Route 19.

Cranberry Township EMS holds a spring and fall weekend car seat check. They also do car seat checks by appointment on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
