Freeport opens new community dock

FREEPORT — A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Freeport Community Dock will be at 6:30 p.m. July 10 at Freeport’s Riverside Park.

The dock, which is 180-linear-feet, has been funded primarily by a grant provided by the state Fish and Boat Commission. The Port of Pittsburgh Commission also funded the project.

The evening also will highlight the 10th anniversary of the Freeport Renaissance Association, and it will end with country music by Black Horse at 7:30 p.m. in the gazebo.

The association continues to fundraise for the dock. Tax deductible donations can be sent to FRA, P.O. Box 262, Freeport, PA 16229. There is also a “Go Fund Me” link on the Freeport Community Dock Facebook page.

Holbein Inc. of Sarver was the general contractor for the project.

The Renaissance Association was formed in May 2005. Throughout its years, the organization has hosted many events along the Allegheny River including three annual gazebo concerts with live entertainment.
