9 county teams to open at home
Nine of the 12 Butler County boys and girls basketball teams entering the WPIAL tournament will begin with home games next week.
North Catholic's girls are the No. 1 seed in Class 3A. Knoch's girls are seeded No. 4 in Class 4A while Freeport's girls are seeded sixth.
Butler's boys are seeded No. 5 in Class 6A while Mars boys have the fifth seed in Class 5A.
The top seed in boys Class 6A is Upper St. Clair, the team Butler knocked out of the WPIAL and PIAA tournaments last year. Fox Chapel, Hempfield and Penn-Trafford are also seeded in front of the Golden Tornado.
North Allegheny, champion of Section 1-6A, is seeded seventh. Pine-Richland is sixth.
There are 235 teams in the open tournament — 122 boys and 113 girls.
