East Butler wins marathon Legion baseball showdown

The clock was nearly at midnight, but East Butler didn't wait until then to perform some magic.

Kolby Gregory's run scoring-double with two outs in the bottom of the 10th inning Friday night gave East Butler a 9-8 victory over Butler Township at Speedo Field.

The Butler County American Legion baseball game lasted three-and-a-half hours. East Butler was down to its last strike with no one on base in the seventh and 10th innings before rallying to tie and win the game.

"This was a crazy game," East Butler coach Dess Schnur said. "It's one I'll remember for a long time."

Buoyed by Matt McCune's three-run homer and Josh Edwards' two hits and two RBI, Butler Township took an 8-5 lead into the bottom of the seventh.

With two outs and facing an 0-2 count, Shane Seybert singled to extend the game for East Butler. Tony Rossmiller - who wound up pitching nine innings for a no-decision - walked and Anthony Slater singled home a run.

Rossmiller and Slater moved up on a passed ball and Matt Schnur delivered a two-run single to tie the game.

In the bottom of the 10th, Todd Walker was at the plate with two outs and an 0-2 count. He hit a fly ball that was dropped.

Gregory, who had struck out three times earlier, doubled to left-center to plate Walker with the winning run.
