Trojans move on
Andrew Maddalon scored 24 points and Max Hurray added 23 Wednesday night as the North Catholic boys basketball team advanced to the PIAA Class 4A quarterfinals with a 78-56 win over Valley View.
The Trojans (21-7) won for the 11th time in 12 games. Max Rottmann netted 14 points for North Catholic. Valley View is 22-5 on the year.
North Catholic will play Uniontown (22-5) — a 67-46 winner over Littlestown on Tuesday — Friday night at a site and time to be determined.
Swimming
Slippery Rock’s 200-yard freestyle relay team placed sixth at the PIAA 2A Championships, setting a school record in the process.
The team of Ann-Katherine Burns, Natalie Double, Season Grant and Grace Olshanski swam a time of 1 minute, 40.84 seconds. They swam the event in 1:41.69 during the preliminaries.
Moniteau’s Katelyn Reott is eighth in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.42 seconds. Freeport’s Kira Schecongost is seventh in the 200 individual medley with a mark of 2:07.74.

Butler traveled to Gateway and dropped a 5-0 decision, losing a pair of tight doubles matches.
