RELIGIOUS ROUNDUP

BUTLER CHURCH OF THE NAZARENE

The children's Christmas musical practice will resume at 5 p.m. Dec. 1 at Butler Church of the Nazarene, 4410 Oakdale Road and Route 68. The all-children's choir practice will follow at 5:30 p.m.

CHRIST COMMUNITY U.M.

The beginning of the Advent season will be celebrated at the weekend services at Christ Community United Methodist Church, 205 N. Duffy Road.

A fellowship breakfast for adults and children will be held at 9:45 a.m. Sunday in Oz Hall. A Hanging of the Greens service will follow.

Adult Sunday school class selection for the second trimester will be held this week.

Campership fundraiser coupon booklets are now available. Coupons are valid through Dec. 2005.

The annual church conference will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday. District superintendent, the Rev. Glenn Kohlhepp, will preside. A meeting of the pastor staff committee will be held at 6:30 p.m.

CHRIST'S OUTREACH

The first week of Advent will be celebrated during the weekend services at Christ's Outreach Church, 120 Walker Ave.

Beth and Lyric Ackleson will provide music at the 10:30 a.m. Sunday service.

An offering to provide Christmas gifts for missionaries will be collected during the services on Saturday and Sunday, and Dec. 4, 5, 11 and 12.

Wednesday evening activities will resume on Dec. 1. The fellowship meal will begin at 5:45 p.m. and activities will follow at 7 p.m.

The adult Bible study group will begin a new study at 7 p.m. Dec. 1.

A new membership class will begin at 7 p.m. Dec. 1 in the pastor's study. The class will continue on Dec. 8 and 15. For information, call the church office at 724-283-8407.

The Down East Boys will be the guests at the church Christmas Banquet at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 3. The evening will include a catered meal, gospel music and door prizes. Tickets are $18 and are available by calling the church office.

COVENANT PRESBY

The Sacrament of the Lord's Supper will be celebrated at the 11 a.m. Sunday service at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 230 E. Jefferson St.

The Advent recital series will begin at 4 p.m. Sunday with music provided by organist Jeffery Abbott and trumpeter Chad Winkler. An offering will be collected and a reception will follow.

George Brown, associate professor of political science at Slippery Rock University, will lead the Seekers Class at 9:45 a.m. Sunday in the Assembly Room.

FAITH FELLOWSHIP

Donations of food and household items will be collected Sunday at Faith Fellowship Alliance Church, 200 Faithway-Fared Drive, to bless youth pastor Jeff Smith and his family.

The Woman of the Word Conference will be held May 20 and 21 in Pittsburgh. For information, call Joy Kummer at 724-283-5092. Payment for the conference is due Dec. 1.

The Alliance Women will hold a Christmas Brunch at 10 a.m. Dec. 4. Tickets are $3 and will be available Sunday at the information desk.

FIRST U.M.

The office at First United Methodist Church, 200 E. North St., will be closed Thursday and Friday in observance of Thanksgiving.

Advent practice will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday in the main sanctuary.

The Financial Peace University Orientation will be held at noon Sunday in the main sanctuary.

The Ground Zero Youth Group will meet Tuesday for a dinner at Quaker Steak and Lube. For information, call the church office at 724-283-6160, or Bill Gumpper.

Poinsettia orders are now being accepted. To place an order, call the church office by Dec. 12.

FIRST ENGLISH LUTHERAN

Ellen Ruft will be with the adult Sunday school class at 9:45 a.m. Sunday at First English Lutheran Church, 241 N. Main St.

The first Sunday in Advent will be observed this week.

Donations to help a less fortunate member of the church may be made at the Christmas tree in the social room.

GLADE RUN U.P.

The offices at Glade Run United Presbyterian Church, 1091 Pittsburgh Road, Valencia, will be closed Thursday and Friday.

The youth group will not meet on Sunday.

Christmas ornaments are available at the church office. Cost is $5 for each ornament.

HILL U.P.

A contemporary service will follow the holiday festival at 6 p.m. Saturday at Hill United Presbyterian Church, 501 Second St.

A visitors' gathering and light refreshments will follow the 10:30 a.m. service on Sunday.

Volunteers are needed at 2 p.m. Friday in the fellowship hall to set up for the holiday festival. The festival will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Volunteers are also needed to help with gift wrapping beginning Dec. 1 at the Clearview Mall. Proceeds will benefit Habitat for Humanity. A sign-up sheet for two-hour shifts is available in the church.

Students in grades 7 to 12 will meet at 9:15 a.m. Dec. 5 to plan a service and Christmas lessons that will be used Dec. 19 at New Haven Court.

Reservations for the Christmas dinner at 6 p.m. Dec. 19 are now being accepted. The children's musical and a carol sing will follow the dinner. Reservations must be received by Dec. 12.

MERIDIAN U.P.

The Sarah Elizabeth Circle will meet hold a Christmas luncheon at noon Dec. 2 in room 15 of Meridian United Presbyterian Church, 4150 Highland Ave. Participants should take a tureen.

MT. CHESTNUT PRESBY

A Hanging of the Greens event will be held at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Chestnut Presbyterian Church, 727 Old West 422. A pizza party and caroling will follow.

A congregational meeting will be held at noon Sunday to elect elders and deacons for 2005.

A rehearsal for the cantata will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday.

The first Sunday of Advent will be celebrated during the Sunday services.

An adult discussion group focusing on spiritual gifts will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Dec. 1.

NEW LIFE CHRISTIAN MINISTRIES

Members of the mission team who served at Tapestries of Life Ministries in Guadalupe, Mexico, will tell about their experiences at the Sunday service at New Life Christian Ministries, Knoch School Auditorium, 345 Knoch Road, Saxonburg.

The church office will be closed Thursday and Friday.

The senior high and middle school youth will not meet Sunday.

The Lord's Supper will be celebrated at the 10 a.m. service Dec. 5. The Nehemiah team will conduct a brief survey during the service.

NORTH MAIN STREET CHURCH OF GOD

The Art of Love Sunday morning class will host a class party after the Sunday morning service at North Main Street Church of God, 1201 N. Main St. Ext. Lunch will be provided. For information, call the church office at 724-285-4214.

Due to the Living Christmas Tree rehearsal, there will be no regular youth meeting on Dec. 1.

OLD UNION PRESBY

The worship committee of Old Union Presbyterian Church, 200 Union Church Road, Mars, will meet after the Sunday service.

Tags for the Children's Youth Home can be selected from the tree in back of the church. These must be returned by Dec. 12.

Deacons are collecting donations for G.I Joe and Jane. A list can be found in the back on the annex side. A special container for items is by the food cupboard box.

Fruit and nut orders are due next Sunday. They can be picked up Dec. 12.

Poinsettia orders are being taken through Dec. 12.

PARK U.P.

The first week of Advent will be celebrated this week at Park United Presbyterian Church, 115 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople.

SAINT ANDREWS U.P.

The Hanging of the Greens will be held after the Sunday service this week at Saint Andrews United Presbyterian Church, 201 E. Jefferson St. A soup and sandwich luncheon will be held in the memorial room before decorating begins.

SLIPPERY ROCK U.M.

Beginning Sunday, the contemporary service will be held at 9 a.m. Sundays at Slippery Rock United Methodist, Franklin and Maple streets.

The 11 a.m. Sunday service will celebrate Thanksgiving.

A covered dish dinner will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, before the Charge Conference.

The Mom's Group will meet at 7 p.m. Dec. 2 for Christmas cookie decorating. The event is open to mothers of children in preschool and elementary school. Child care will be provided.

ST. JOHN U.C.C.

The adult and bell choirs of St. John's United Church of Christ, 501 E. Main St., Evans City, will hold a tech rehearsal at 6 p.m. Sunday to prepare for the festival of Christmas music Dec. 3 to 5.

The senior youth group will hold an ice skating get-together on Saturday.

ST. MARK'S EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN

The Katie's Kitchen organization of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 201 W. Jefferson St., is now collecting donations for flu care bags. Donations of cough drops, throat lozenges, aspirin-free pain relievers, tissues, lip balm and travel size soaps will be collected through Dec. 8. A donation box is available near the church office.

Church members who will spend the winter months in the south should notify the church office in order to receive bulletins and newsletters.

Volunteers are needed to decorate the Christmas trees and windows at 1 p.m. Sunday in the sanctuary.

ST. PETER'S EPISCOPAL

A series of four adult education classes for the Advent season will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Dec. 1 to 22 in the guild room at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 218 E. Jefferson St. Participants should take a snack to share.

There will be no adult education on Sunday. Classes will resume Dec. 5.

A dinner welcoming new members to Daughters of the King will be held at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 1.

ST. RICHARD R.C.

The Rev. Gilbert Paznakoski will speak on the Infancy Narratives of Jesus from the Gospels at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday at St. Richard Roman Catholic Church, 3841 Dickey Road, Gibsonia.

TRINITY LUTHERAN

Youth group members and their families from Trinity Lutheran Church, 120 Sunset Drive, will meet from 11:30 p.m. Friday to 2 a.m. Saturday at Meridian Lanes for Midnight Cosmic Glow Bowling.

Communion will be served at the 8:30 a.m. Sunday service.

Christmas gifts for the North Side are due to the church by Dec. 5.

Peanut butter and jelly will be collected for the Covenant Food Cupboard during December.

WEST SUNBURY U.P.

The celebration of Advent will begin at the 10:30 a.m. Sunday service at West Sunbury United Presbyterian Church, 215 East Church St., West Sunbury.

Church volunteers will wrap gifts at the Clearview Mall on Dec. 14 and 18 to benefit Habitat for Humanity. To volunteer, call the church office at 724-637-2436.

WHITE OAK SPRINGS PRESBY
