BUTLER TWP — Friedman's Fresh Market and its workers came to a contract agreement.

The workers are represented by the United Food and Commercial Workers Union, Local 23.

The three-year contract is retroactive to Nov. 1.

PENN TWP — The Lighthouse Foundation hired Ken Wirtz as the new director of family ministries.Wirtz will manage and coordinate all efforts of the food bank, furniture warehouse and emergency rental and utility assistance. The Lighthouse's food bank is currently serving about 150 families each week.Before joining The Lighthouse staff, Wirtz ran a landscaping and lawn care business, worked for Peoples Natural Gas for 30 years and was a Lighthouse volunteer for 10 years.

SLATE LICK, Armstrong County — NAI Pittsburgh Commercial was hired to lease Northpointe Technology Center II at Northpointe Business Park on Route 28.The new building is a 30,000-square-foot flex project to be completed this fall.NAI recommends the space for offices and light industrial.The firm was hired by the Armstrong County Industrial Development Authority, a county governmental agency.

ALCOA, Tenn. — Alcoa expanded its aluminum can recycling operation in East Tennessee, which is already one of the nation's largest recycling plants.The Pittsburgh-based company's president said at a Friday dedication the expansion coincides with a goal to boost the current 54 percent rate of recycling beverage cans in the United States to 75 percent by 2015.Alcoa President and CEO Klaus Kleinfeld said the beverage can recycling rate in Russia is 75 percent, while the rate is 91 percent in Germany and 95 percent in Brazil.A company statement says recycling an aluminum can saves 95 percent of the energy it takes to make one from new metal. A used beverage container can be recycled and back on the shelf in 60 days.The company spent $24 million on the expansion.
