Moniteau girls reach D-9 title game

Kendall Sankey tallied 18 points, 13 rebounds and six assists Tuesday night as Moniteau defeated Coudersport, 50-38, in a District 9 2A girls basketball semifinal at Brockway.

Abbey Jewart had six assists for the Warriors (19-6), who will play Redbank Valley for the district title Saturday at Clarion University’s Tippin Gymnasium.

Allie Pry scored 13 points and Catherine Kelly contributed 11 for Moniteau. Emma Chambers netted 13 points and Sierra Myers 12 for Coudersport.

The Warriors held a scant 19-18 lead at halftime before outscoring Coudersport 31-20 in the second half to win going away.

Boys Basketball

Mars dropped a 56-36 decision to South Fayette in the WPIAL 5A Fifth-Place consolation game Tuesday night at Hampton.

The Planets (16-10) have dropped four of their last six games. The 36 points marked a season-low for Mars, which will enter the PIAA Tournamernt as the sixth-place team out of District 7.

South Fayette (16-10) won for the eighth time in nine games. The Planets and Lions split their regular season series, Mars winning 49-48 at South Fayette, the Lions winning 77-72 at Mars.
