Butler’s Griffith shines at state meet

Butler senior Drew Griffith won the mile run Sunday at the PA Indoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Penn State University.

Griffith ran the event in 4 minutes, 7.24 seconds. He took the lead with 400 meters left and cruised from there. He also ran a blazing anchor leg of the Golden Tornado’s distance medley relay, moving that relay from ninth to third.

Joining Griffith on the DMR were Owen Dressler, Drew Knight and Zachary Slear.

Megan Baggetta placed fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 38 feet, 1.5 inches. She broke her indoor school record for the third time this season. Grace Nichols finished 16th in the high jump at 5-0.

Landon Lacey placed 10th in the 400 meters with a time of 50 seconds. Butler’s 4x800 relay of Knight, Slear, Nicholas Niebauer and Dressler finished 19th, the 4x400 relay of Josh Aspelin, Aaron Stebick, David Graef and Lacey 18th.

There were more than 500 schools represented at the meet.
