William D. 'Bill' Painter
William D. "Bill" Painter, 89, of Evans City died Friday at his home.
Born May 11, 1917, in Saltsburg, he was the son of Earl E. and Shirley G. Pittman Painter.
Mr. Painter was an avid baseball fan who played in many baseball leagues in Butler County. Along with his brother, "Butch," he was well-known in the Eagle League Baseball organization.
Mr. Painter retired from Sprint after 43 years.
He served on the school board of Evans City High School and the school board authority when the Seneca Valley School District was formed. He helped form the Midget League Football and Little League Baseball programs in Evans City.
Mr. Painter was an active member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Evans City, where he had been president of the church council and superintendent of the Sunday school program.
He was also a member of the Harmony Lodge 429 F&AM, the Valley of New Castle Consistory, the Syria Shrine Temple of Pittsburgh, and the Butler Caravan. In addition, he was a member of the Evans City Sportsman Club, the Independent Pioneer Telephone Association, and a lifetime member of the Evans City Volunteer Fire Department.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and was an avid Pirates fan.
He is survived by his wife, Helen F. Trivitt Painter, whom he married Aug. 15, 1946, in Stoneboro; three sons, William D. Painter II and his wife, Patricia, of Evans City, Rick D. Painter and his wife, Sally, of Evans City, and Ronald D. Painter of Pittsburgh; a daughter, Beth Ann Stamp and her husband, Jeff, of Little Rock, Ark.; a sister, Betty Pfeifer of Butler; eight grandchildren, Edward J., Tiffany L., William P., and Gregory T. Painter, Michele L. Painter-Holmgren, Sarah Crawford, Alexis L. Stamp-Boster, and Benjamin T. Stamp.
Also surviving are two great-grandchildren, Baillie and Alaina Holmgren.
He was preceded in death by a son, John D. Painter; two brothers, Wilson E. Painter and John "Butch" Painter, and a sister, Margie Ann Shisler.

Main St., Evans City.Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 202 Van Buren St., Evans City, with the Rev. David R. Saylor officiating.
