Homer A. Hewitt Jr.

Homer A. Hewitt Jr., 77, of Buffalo Township passed away at noon Tuesday while in the company of family members at Good Samaritan Hospice Unit at Concordia, Jefferson Township.

Mr. Hewitt was born in Freeport, July 4, 1931, the son of the late Homer A. and Marie (Schlick) Hewitt.

He served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War, where he was a member of the 101st Airborne Division.

He was a body shop manager and technician for Jack's Ford in Buffalo Township for 32 years. He then went to work for Charapp Ford for another 13 years. Homer had also worked for a number of other dealerships in the area: Nick Chevrolet, Sullivan Chevrolet and Long & Stewart Chevrolet. Homer owned and operated Homer's Radiator Shop for years as well. He also would buy wrecked cars and repair them to sell.

Homer was a member of the Harrison Township and the New Kensington VFW and the Saxonburg Sportsman's Club. He enjoyed fishing, shooting and traveling.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Shirley (Hoover) Hewitt; his two sons, David (Mary Lynn) Hewitt of Jackson Hole, Wyo., and William (Lori) Hewitt of Buffalo Township; and his daughter, Darla Schaub of Buffalo Township. He also is survived by his grandchildren: Sarah Beth Hewitt, Jackson Hole; Joshua Paul Hewitt, Jackson Hole; Heather Marie Dymkoski, Buffalo Township; Hailey Jo and Jonathan Thomas Schaub, Buffalo Township; and Amanda Dean, Angela Arlene and Logan David Hewitt, Buffalo Township.

Homer was preceded in death by his two brothers, Robert G. and Rollin Hewitt; two sisters, Carol Venturini and Margaret Burford; and a great-grandson, Drew Gavin Penny, who passed in 2002.

<B>HEWITT</B> — Family and friends of Homer A. Hewitt Jr., who died Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2008, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at <B>REDMOND FUNERAL HOME</B>, 524 High St., Freeport. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home with the Rev. Howard Greenfield of Zion United Methodist Church officiating.
