Robert E. McNany, 59, of Butler died Friday at the Good Samaritan Hospice at Concordia, following a short illness.

He was born Feb. 26, 1950, in Chicora, a son of the late Norman L. McNany Sr. and Mary E. Peters McNany.

Bob attended Karns City High School, and was a veteran of the U. S. Navy. He served two tours of duty in Vietnam. He had been employed at International Staple and Machine Co. for 37 years, retiring last year.

He was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman, enjoyed movies and loved animals, especially his family's pet cats.

He was a social member of the East Butler Fireman's Club, the French and Belgium Club and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He will be greatly missed by those whose lives he touched. He is survived by his loving wife, Rita D. Gornick McNany, who he married Nov. 27, 1974; his daughter, Lisa R. McNany of Butler; a brother, Norman L. 'Len' McNany of Chicora; three sisters, Mary Ann McNany-Appleton (Frank) of East Brady, Pamela S. McNany-Cashmere of East Brady and Norma D. McNany-Emerick (Gordon) of Meridian; his aunts, Grace Peters (Joseph) of California and Lottie Peters-Bergbigler of Butler; and uncles, Harry of Butler and Norman "Butch" Fennell of Toacoa, Ga.

Also surviving are his mother-in-law, Antoinette 'Nettie' Gornick of Butler; brother-in-law, John Gornick of Butler; numerous loving cousins, and three nieces and five nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; paternal grandparents, Edward Elmer and Anna Elizabeth Callaghan-McNany of Parker; maternal grandparents, Edward Ellsworth Peters and Lucinda Lavina Henry-Peters-Stewart of Chicora; his father-in-law, Anthony T. Gornick; and brother-in-law, Anthony C. Gornick of Hollidaysburg; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

"Bob" McNany, who died Friday, Feb. 19, 2010, are invited to attend a memorial service at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 6, 2010, at the East Brady Baptist Church in East Brady with the Rev.
