SR boys pick up region victory
Slippery Rock held Sharon to just 15 points in the first half and the Rockets went on to post a 55-41 boys basketball victory at home Friday night.
John Sabo led the scoring for Slippery Rock (7-10) with 16 points and Dylan Gordon contributed 10.

Karns City 62, Redbank Valley 38 — Karns City won its fifth straight and for the tenth time in 11 contests, downing the Bulldogs at home.
Taite Beighley tallied 18 points, five rebounds and six assists to pace the Gremlins (16-3). Hobie Bartoe scored 15 while Micah Rupp posted nine points, seven rebounds, six steals and four blocks.
KC’s offense hit its stride after scoring 11 points in the first quarter.

North Catholic 72, Wheeling Central Catholic 46 — Max Hurray’s 29 points included four treys as the Trojans (13-6, 8-2) dominated the first three quarters.
Matt Ellery added 13 points and Andrew Maddalon 11 for North, which won for the ninth time in 10 games.

Girls Basketball
Mars overcame a sluggish second quarter to defeat host Shaler, 38-35.
The win keeps the Planets (14-4, 8-2) alone atop the Section 2-5A standings, a half game ahead of Armstrong.
Vita Vargo scored 12 points for Mars and Olivia Donnelly added 10.

Hockey
Jack Smelscer had a goal and two assists as Seneca Valley defeated Canon-McMillan, 4-3, recently. Jaxson Read had two goals and an assist, Jacob Gilbert one goal.
Johnathon Nichols made 17 saves in goal for the Raiders.
Swimming
Slippery Rock’s girls improved to 8-0 and maintained first place in District 10’s Region 1 with a 113-54 win over Grove City. The Rocket boys slipped to 1-7 with a 106-51 loss.
Mollie Massella won the 200-yard freestyle and 100 butterfly for the SR girls while Natalie Double won tne 200 individual medley and 100 backstroke, Gracie Olshanski the 50 and 100 freestyle, Ann-Katherine Burns the 100 breaststroke. Slippery Rock also won the 200 medley relay and 200 free relay.
On the boys side, Cody Hartle won the 200 individual medley and 100 butterfly, Connor Wallace the 50 and 100 freestyle.
