Oros, Raiders win big

Butler’s Brewster sets school record

Connor Oros poured in 28 points Saturday to lead Seneca Valley to a 70-45 boys basketball win over Union (New Castle) in the Raiders gym.

Oros sank three treys in the game and scored 14 points in the third quarter alone. Luke Lawson added 14 points as the Raiders improved to 7-9 overall.

The Raiders led by one point at halftime before outscoring the Scotties 47-23 in the second half.

Seneca Valley returns to section play Tuesday night, hosting Central Catholic.

Karns City 61, Cranberry 28 — The Gremlins (13-3) built a 34-10 lead by halftime and coasted to this win on the road.

Micah Rupp scored 12 points, grabbed seven rebounds and added five steals in the victory.

Hobie Bartoe and Jacob Callihan both scored 13 points.

Girls Basketball

Withstanding a 31-point performance by Libby Eannarino, Moniteau scored a 52-50 victory at Sewickley Academy on Saturday.

The Warriors (14-3) won their eighth straight game.

Catherine Kelly scored 20 points and added five assists for Moniteau while Kendall Sankey added 11 points and six rebounds. Allie Pry netted eight points, Davina Pry grabbed seven rebounds.

Track and Field

Butler junior Ava Brewster broke the school record in the indoor 3,200 meters Saturday while placing fourth overall at the 2023 Ohio Preview Meet, held at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.

Brewster’s time of 11 minutes, 42.45 seconds bested the previous school mark of 11:51.24 set by Holly Keefer in 2014.

The Golden Tornado’s boys 4x800 meter relay team won that event in 8:12.05. The quartet consisted of Zach Slear, Owen Dressler, Drew Knight and Drew Griffith. There were 173 schools from four different states competing in the meet.
