Butler bowlers clinch section crown

Eric DeVore rolled a 731 series Wednesday as the Butler boys bowling team clinched the WPIBL North section title with a 7-0 victory over Shaler at Family Bowlaway.

DeVore rolled games of 236, 249 and 246. Luke Keene added a 646 series and high game of 234. Rocco Rice contributed a 243-639 for the Golden Tornado (8-0).

Butler’s girls clinched a WPIBL playoff berth with a 7-0 triumph. Natalie Coughenour rolled a 541 series and 199 game while Kelsee McConnell had a 515 series for Butler (6-2).

Both Butler teams travel to Kiski Area on Tuesday.

Freeport 7, Apollo-Ridge 0 — Both Yellowjacket teams won by 7-0 counts. Mackensie Livingston paced the girls with a 609 series, including games of 231 and 201. Julia Cummings had a 597 series with games of 211 and 206.

Colin Cummings led the boys win with a 724 series, including games of 225, 245 and 254. Dylan Granata rolled a 617 series, featuring games of 212 and 246. Anand Bhat rolled a 246 game.

Girls Basketball

Catherine Kelly scored 18 points and Kendall Sankey tallied eight points, eight rebounds and five assists in leading Moniteau to a 54-13 victory at A-C Valley.

The Warriors had a 36-9 lead by halftime against the Falcons (0-15), who play Friday at Keystone. Mackenzie Parks led A-C Valley with eight points.

Boys Basketball

Tayvon Bibbs scored 15 points and Allen Grimes netted 14, but Summit Academy dropped a 57-54 decision at Neighborhood Academy.

The Knights slipped to 6-3 overall, 2-3 in section play. They play at Apollo-Ridge on Thursday.

John Wilkins paced three Neighborhood Academy players in double figures with 19 points.
