University of Pittsburgh

Get a bachelor’s from the University of Pittsburgh without the commute to Oakland.

The University of Pittsburgh College of General Studies (CGS) puts students on the path to real-world success. And for residents of Butler and the surrounding area, that path begins right outside your door.

Students can complete a bachelor’s degree in administration of justice from the University of Pittsburgh by taking classes exclusively on the Butler County Community College campus and online while still enjoying the privileges and benefits available to all Pitt students.

One key benefit is the real-world experience of the instructors in the administration of justice program. Many instructors have years of experience working in the field, providing a curriculum that can’t be found in a text book and a unique networking opportunity to help students break into the field.

Fina Abramovitz (CGS ’13) was drawn to the administration of justice bachelor’s degree program for precisely this reason.

“At Pitt, I got a realistic look inside law enforcement from judges, lawyers, and police officers,” says Fina. “It’s a great benefit inside the classroom, and it helps to establish important professional connections for later on.”

With the help of her experienced instructors and dedicated CGS adviser, Abramovitz completed two high-level internships; one with the Office of Homeland Security and a second in the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s office.

The hands-on experience she gained in both placements, including bagging crime scene evidence and being present for autopsies, helped her land her dream job as a forensic investigator.
