2015 Vogeley scholarship winners named

Butler High School senior Rebecca Frazier has been selected as recipient of the 33rd annual Theodore K. Vogeley Scholarship.

She was chosen from 44 applicants, 19 of whom were interviewed. The scholarship will cover full tuition, room and board, books and student fees.

Rebecca is the daughter of Jeffrey and Donna Frazier.

She is a member of the National Honor Society, student council, marching band and the varsity rifle team. She plans to attend Purdue University to major in agricultural communications.

Due to the availability of remaining funds, one other student will receive a four-year fixed-amount scholarship and three students will receive one-time grants.

The recipients are: Niyati Panchal, $11,000 annually for four years; Nikolai Peterson, one-time grant of $10,000; and Alyssa DiPippa and Gretchen Wilson, both one-time grants of $5,500.

Niyati is the daughter of Foram Patel of Wexford and Jitendra Panchal of Butler. She is a member of the student council and National Honor Society. She plans to attend the University of Pittsburgh as a biology major.

Nikolai is the son of Maura and Jeffrey Peterson of Renfrew. He was a member of the indoor and outdoor track teams, the marching band, Tornado Big Band and the National Honor Society. He lettered three times in both indoor and outdoor track and field. He plans to attend the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta majoring in chemical engineering.

Alyssa is the daughter of Jacki and Matthew DiPippa of Renfrew. She is a member of the volleyball, basketball and track and field teams, the National Honor Society and Future Business Leaders of America. She was captain of the volleyball, basketball, and track and field teams, and the 2014 Gold Baton Award winner in track. She made the Quad A All-Section Team in basketball. She plans to attend Penn State University as an architecture major.

Gretchen is the daughter of Nancy and Daniel Wilson of Butler. She is a member of the varsity tennis and lacrosse teams, the Butler Theatre Club, the all-school musical and the Prom Committee. She was the tennis team MVP and lettered in tennis and lacrosse. She plans to attend Grove City College to major in secondary English education.

The number of Vogeley recipients varies each year due to interest earned on the trust account and the costs of the students’ colleges or universities. A committee of three is responsible for selecting the recipients. They include Jeffery J. Schnur, high school principal; William C. Robinson Jr., Butler attorney; and Ray Tennent, Boy Scouts of America representative.
