Remember to thank volunteers
As 2022 comes to an end and we think back to everything we should be thankful for, let us remember the multitude of men and women who left their Christmas morning to battle the fire at Thompson’s market.
These men and women did not get paid to show up. They were all volunteers. They left their wives, husbands, children, parents and friends to go out in sub-zero temperatures to help fight a fire. Most missed almost all of their Christmas in order to help in any way possible.
The next time you see one of these fire departments asking for money to help keep their stations ready to help you, me or some neighboring local, don’t think twice. Give them whatever you can. Next time the whistle goes off, it may be your house or business they are being called to help.
