Former teacher pleads guilty

Sentencing will follow evaluation

CHERRY TWP — A former Moniteau High School teacher who allegedly was sexually inappropriate with female students has pleaded guilty to five counts of corruption of minors.

According to court records, 27-year-old Jonathan Crum victimized five girls, beginning in 2009.

The allegations against Crum, who taught 11th grade English and AP European history, range from exchanging sexually explicit photographs on cell phones to oral sex.

One girl, in the criminal complaint, says Crum changed her English grade to a “B” after he touched her buttocks.

The series of alleged actions occurred on school grounds, sometimes during classroom hours, immediately after school or during after school activities.

The Moniteau School Board in June officially fired Crum, who had been suspended without pay since the allegations surfaced two months earlier.

Although Crum also was an assistant football coach, none of the allegations involve that role.

Crum must be evaluated by a member of the state’s Sexual Offender Assessment Board before Butler County Judge William Shaffer will schedule a sentencing date for him.

Most likely, Crum will face a sentence already negotiated with the Butler County District Attorney’s Office: 90 to 180 days in the Butler County Prison. After he is paroled at 90 days, he would spend one year on house arrest with electronic monitoring.

Assistant District Attorney Christine Studeny, who prosecuted the case, declined to comment. Crum’s defense attorney could not be reached.
