Genevieve Galena Thompson
Genevieve Galena Thompson, 89, recently of Parker Heights, Parker, died Monday at Beverly Healthcare-Shippenville. She previously lived in Foxburg for more than 80 years.
Born Nov. 19, 1916, in Foxburg, she was the daughter of James A. and Catheryn B. Cook Galena.
She attended elementary school in Foxburg and was a graduate of the St. Petersburg-Richland High School. As a youth, she played golf and tennis and was a member of the girls' basketball team.
On Nov. 13, 1941, she married Eugene E. "Burrhead" Thompson at the Parker Presbyterian Church. They were married at the beginning of World War II and she accompanied him to California for his basic training. While there she worked in a factory and shared an apartment with other young wives. Once he shipped out, she worked at Moyer's Level Works in Parker with her three sisters and made glass levels used in fighter planes.
After the war, the Thompsons settled in Foxburg, where he became postmaster and they raised a family. She worked part time as a housekeeper for several Allegheny-Clarion Valley area families, enjoyed her work and became a part of their lives.
Mrs. Thompson and her husband loved to travel and one of their happiest trips was to Hawaii for an American Legion Convention. Winters were spent in Florida with their children, who resided there.
Following the death of her husband on Oct. 19, 1983, she continued to spend winters in Florida with their family. One Christmas, her children gave her a trip to Hawaii with a friend.

She was well-known for her baking abilities, and her pie and cookie recipes graced many local cookbooks.
Mrs. Thompson and her husband were early members of the Foxburg Country Club, where they were trophy-winning golfers. In later years, she enjoyed sitting on the club porch for ladies night.
She was well-known for her sense of humor and her quick-to-the- point attitude, and her family wishes she be remembered in that way with a smile.
Her children, grandchildren and their spouses were her greatest pride and she loved to show their pictures wherever she went. Tim Trill, the eldest grandchild, held a special place in her heart as she baby-sat him as a child.
