Police seek suspect accused of armed robbery in Butler
Butler police are looking for a man suspected of pulling a handgun on a woman during a holdup Monday night at a home on Virginia Avenue.
Maurice A. Franklin, 23, of Butler made off with the woman’s wallet containing $290, police said.
Franklin is wanted on an arrest warrant on charges of robbery, illegal possession of a firearm, terroristic threats and theft.
Police were called at 11:45 p.m. to Brandi Berry’s home in the 500 block of Virginia Avenue where they spoke to the alleged victim, 29-year-old Alicia Bures of Butler.
Bures, who lives nearby and was visiting Berry, told police that Franklin showed up at the home and they got into an argument. He dumped out the contents of her purse and took a wallet.
He is accused of brandishing a gun and pointing it at her, police said. Bures described the gun as a small, pink and silver pistol.
“(Franklin) cocked the gun and told (Berry) to get her son out of the house because it was about to get ugly,” according to the police report.
Wallet in hand, the defendant fled. No injuries were reported.
Police searched for the suspect, including at his home in the 300 block of Virginia Avenue, but could not find him.
According to charging documents, Franklin’s criminal record prohibits him from possessing any firearms, under state law.
