Another gold coin for library
ZELIENOPLE — Another gold coin from an anonymous donor was found in Zelienople Public Library’s mail recently.
The coin, a $50 Walking Liberty Centennial was donated to the library in March.
Library director Jan Lawrence said the coin will be auctioned. Sealed bids will be received at the library by 5 p.m. on June 21.
Bids will be opened at 6:30 p.m. at the library’s board of trustees meeting. The minimum bid will be $1,350.
One coin has been donated to various efforts since 2009. Although efforts have been made to find out who the donor is, the identity remains anonymous.
Last year, a $20 Liberty coin dated back to 1898 was donated to help fund the borough’s 4th of July fireworks celebration.
Other gold coins found include a South African Krugerrand and a Canadian $20 one-ounce gold coin.
The coin is the latest donation to the library this year.
Local resident Randall Hart donated $7,000 to cover the library’s deficit in January and area dentist Mark Marion partnered with the library for the Smiles for Life program that began in March. The latter’s effort has raised more than $2,500 from teeth whitenings for the library.
