Butler bowling team off to 2-0 start
Three Butler bowlers rolled 600-series Friday as the Golden Tornado boys defeated Deer Lakes, 7-0.
Luke Keene led the way with a 671. Eric Devore rolled a 644 and Alex Ekas rolled a 610 as the Butler boys improved to 2-0 on the season.
The girls (1-1) dropped a 5-2 decision to Deer Lakes despite Natalie Coughenour rolling a 235 game and 592 series. Tia Germanich led Deer Lakes with a 719 series.
Butler’s boys and girls opened the bowling season earlier in the week with 7-0 victories over Seneca Valley at Belmont Bowl. Ekas had a 278 game and 718 series for the Tornado boys, Keene adding a 674 series. Rocco Rice had a 279 game and 636 series while Devore rolled a 634 series.
Jesse Coyne paced the Raiders with a 511.
Coughenour led Butler’s girls with a 228 game and 640 series. Kelsee MCConnell had a 194-542.
Butler returns to action at 3 p.m. Wednesday, hosting Kiski Area at Family Bowlaway.
Swimming
Numerous Slippery Rock swimmers qualified for the District 10 meet with their performances at Edgewood’s Swimming Invitational held at Spire Institute over the weekend.
Cody Hartle qualified in the 200 individual medley and 100 backstroke. On the girls side, Natalie Double in the 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke, Grace Olshanski in the 50 and 100 freesyle, Katelyn Parson in the 100 breaststroke, Ann-Katherine Burns in the 50 freestyle and 100 breast, Mollie Massella in the 100 butterfly and 200 individual medley, Season Grant in the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke, all qualified.
The Rocket girls won the 18-team event, tallying 388 points to runner-up Chagrin Falls’ 369. The 200 medley relay team of Double, Burns, Massella and Olshanski, 200 free relay team of Grant, Burns, Double and Olshanski, Burns in the 100 backstroke and Massella in the 200 IM and 200 butterfly all won those respective events.
Slippery Rock’s boys placed 10th out of 18 teams.
Girls Basketball
Alayna Rocco scored 25 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, but North Catholic dropped a 65-54 decision to King’s Fork.
Dacia Lewandowski added 12 points for the Trojanettes.
