John C. 'Jack' Frankenstein

John C. “Jack” Frankenstein, 89, of Zelienople passed away Sunday at Evergreen Nursing Center in Harmony.

Born on May 17, 1925, in Jackson Township, he was the son of the late Elmer and Caroline (Burr) Frankenstein.

A World War II veteran, he served in Iceland as a diesel mechanic for the Army/Air Corps.

He was a member of the St. Peter's Reformed Church in Zelienople, where he served as an elder and deacon. Jack served on many boards and belonged to the Hungarian Club, the Moose, Zelienople-Harmony Sportsman Club and the Mausoleum Association. He was also a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 474.

He was the owner and operator of Frankenstein Builders Supply with his partner, the late Red Altemus, for 60 years. Jack retired from driving his cement mixer at the age of 82.

He enjoyed working hard, gardening, going to his camp in West Freedom, and spending time with his dogs, Daisy and Joey. Above all, he loved his family and friends.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his friend, Suzie Rape of Zelienople; his son, Wayne (Susan Zehner) Frankenstein of Zelienople; his daughter, Cindy (Randy) Hart of Zelienople; his grandsons, Jon Hart of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Justin Hart of Zelienople; his granddaughter, Amanda Frankenstein of Zelienople; his great-grandsons, Colin and Myles Morris of Zelienople and Matt Dodson of Ellwood City; his great-great-grandson, Kyler Dodson; and his sisters, Caroline “Tootie” Altemus of Zelienople and Marlene (Harold) Vaughn of West Chester.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Frances (DeWalt) Frankenstein; his three siblings, Helen Zeigler, Peg Schramm and Pete Frankenstein; and his granddaughter, Jackie (Hart) Morris.

Frankenstein— Jack's family will welcome friends of John C. “Jack” Frankenstein, who passed away Sunday, June 22, 2014, from 2 p.m. until the time of a funeral ceremony with military honors at 8 p.m. Thursday at the Boylan Funeral Home, 324 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople, with the Rev. James R. Bertoti officiating.Jack will be laid to rest privately by his family at the Zelienople Community Mausoleum.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made in Jack's honor in support of the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123, to the Alzheimer's Association, P.O.
