Esther M. Moore, 91, of Center Township, Butler, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Thursday, Sept. 3, 2026, at Quality Life Services — Worthington.

Esther was born May 10, 1935, in Butler, daughter of the late Ralph L. Herold and Edith M. (Ryder) Herold.

Esther graduated from Butler High School in 1953. Soon after graduation, she married Charles L. Moore, of Butler, and they started a family together. Over the years, she worked at Troutman’s Department Store, on the Herold family farm, assisted senior citizens with maintaining their homes and retired from the Butler Memorial Hospital in 1997.

She was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and giving a helping hand to anyone who needed it. One of her pleasures was baking sweet treats, and we were never quite sure if she or others enjoyed her creations more. Her most popular special recipe was her soft and delicious sugar cookies.

Due to her upbringing on the Herold farm, she always had a passion for animals, gardening, taking care of lawns, and especially enjoyed activities that kept her in the yard rather than indoors. If a door or window frame needed painting, she was the one who held the brush. A special farm-learned skill that we all laughed with her about was her spot on rooster crow.

She is survived by her son, Chuck L. Moore Jr., of Center Township; daughter, Karen (Richard) Shields, of Slippery Rock; granddaughter, Ashley Shields; and niece, Dawn Campbell.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles L. Moore, whom she married June 12, 1953, and who passed away July 23, 2005; an infant brother; sister, Blanche V. McCommons; and brother-in-law, Benjamin McCommons.

MOORE — A funeral service for Esther M. Moore, who died Thursday, Sept. 3, 2026, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, at THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 124 E. North St., Butler, with Pastor Joe Olkowski, of Zion Church and chaplain at Quality Life Services — Sugar Creek, officiating.

Esther will be laid to rest at Greenlawn Burial Estates.
