John Luppe

John Frederick Luppe

John Frederick Luppe, 90, of Butler went to be with his Lord Monday, surrounded by his family at ConcordiaCare in Cabot.

He was born Nov. 19, 1924, in Pittsburgh, the son of the late John F. and Dora (Ransick) Luppe.

John moved to Butler in 1945 where he joined St. Mark's Lutheran Church. He met his wife, Allene, there and became very involved in the church, where he served as an elder on church council, a trustee and a Sunday school teacher for youth and adults. He was the founding president of the Young Adult Luther League for 5 years.

John owned and operated Reliable Furniture on Main Street in Butler for more than 50 years. He was active in many business organizations, including the Chamber of Commerce, the Downtown Butler Association, the United Way and the Butler Credit Bureau.

John was very active in scouting for more than 76 years. He was scoutmaster of Troop 12 at the church, Explorer Post 12 adviser, council commissioner, camping chairman, advancement chairman, and vice president of finance, activities and membership and relationships. He received scouting's Silver Beaver Award and was presented with the prestigious Lamb Award, which recognizes the distinguished service of Lutheran adults in fostering the spiritual growth of youth through church and civic youth serving agency programs such as the Boy Scouts of America. He was the chaplain and lay preacher at Scottyland Campground in Somerset, Pa., for 13 years.

He also served 15 years as president of the Butler County Fraternal Branch of Lutheran Brotherhood, was on the Eva Knoch Scholarship Board at Knoch High School and was on the Jefferson Township Planning Commission. He was a member of several Masonic organizations including the Victory Lodge No. 694 and a member of the Elks Club. He enjoyed gardening, traveling and camping.

Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Allene D. (Herrit) Luppe; two daughters, Marsha (David) Mondani of Butler and Marlene (Dick) Beamer of Butler; five grandchildren, Jennifer (Kirk) Bailey, Dr. Jessica Mondani (Dr. Jeremy Johnson), Jacquelyn Mondani, Michelle (Earl) Martin and Michael Beamer; four great-grandchildren, Christopher, Caden, Caroline and Theodore; one sister, Laura Brochi; one brother, Frank (Florene) Luppe; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Helen Campbell; and one brother, Chuck Luppe.

LUPPE — Funeral services for John Fredrick Luppe, who died Monday, May 18, 2015, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 201 W. Jefferson St., Butler.
