Father of accused twins himself is accused of drug sales
A father of twins was accused of selling drugs Monday — months after one of his sons was accused of homicide, and the other was accused of drug sales.
Charles Lloyd, 44, of West Mifflin, and Tylah J. Witherspoon, 24, of Pittsburgh, were charged by state police with felony drug sales and four counts of misdemeanor drug possession following a Friday traffic stop in Butler Township.
Lloyd was additionally charged with two counts of felony aggravated assault, felony possession of a prohibited firearm and misdemeanor resisting arrest.
Witherspoon was additionally cited for not having rear lighting on her vehicle.
According to officials, Lloyd is the father of Daniel Charles Lloyd, 20, of Pitcairn and his identical twin brother, Charles Daniel Lloyd, 20, of Pittsburgh.
In June, Daniel C. Lloyd was charged with criminal homicide related to the killing of an Ohio man who was in Muddy Creek Township. He was arrested in Detroit on Sept. 16.
While not accused in that case, Charles D. Lloyd, along with Witherspoon, whom police alleged was an accomplice, were charged with felony counts of possessing a gun with an altered serial number and drug sales during a September traffic stop.
In the September case, Witherspoon was also charged with counts of possessing drug paraphernalia and making repairs to an offensive weapon, and Charles D. Lloyd additionally was charged with one felony count of carrying a gun without a license and a misdemeanor count of driving under the influence.
Earlier this month, Charles D. Lloyd pleaded not guilty to all six charges before District Judge Lewis Stoughton.
According to charging documents, state police observed a white 2020 Dodge Ram traveling on New Castle Road around 3:45 p.m. Nov. 25. A traffic stop was initiated due to one break light not functioning.
Police said Witherspoon was operating the vehicle with Lloyd as the passenger. Lloyd told police that he was renting the vehicle.
“I immediately smelled an odor of marijuana permeating from inside the vehicle,” the investigating officer said in the affidavit.
Both Lloyd and Witherspoon did not have marijuana prescription cards to provide to police.
Police said Lloyd was asked to exit the vehicle, and he consented to being searched. Lloyd informed police he had a knife, which was removed during the search.
According to charging documents, Lloyd became agitated when officers were checking for weapons, and pulled away. Police said Lloyd reached for his waistband, which is a common place to conceal weapons.
“I grabbed his arm, pinning him against the vehicle as he began to reach towards his waist band,” the officer said.
Lloyd struggled and pushed two officers before being forced to the ground and handcuffed and taken into custody.
Police said they found $1,061 in cash and two small rubber bands on Lloyd’s person.
A search warrant was obtained for the rental vehicle. Police said they found a 9 mm semi-automatic handgun with a full magazine, two bricks of suspected heroin, 12 suspected clonazepam pills, 4 suspected gabapentin pills, 2 suspected amphetamine and dextroamphetamine pills, 8.54 grams of suspected powder fentanyl, 16.9 grams of suspected powder cocaine, 11.51 grams of suspected crack cocaine, 4.94 grams of suspected powder heroin, 4 empty plastic bags, 2 marijuana joints, a wallet containing $350 and an I.D. for Lloyd, a digital scale, seven cellphones, and a dog license and an electric bill addressed to Lloyd.
Lloyd and Witherspoon were arraigned Saturday before District Judge Kevin O’Donnell and placed in Butler County Prison in lieu of a $75,000 for Lloyd and a $10,000 bond for Witherspoon.
