Harmony man gets 1 year of probation

A Harmony man who flipped his pickup truck — allegedly during an illegal race — will spend a year on probation.

Michael Scott Russi, 29, pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor count of accidents involving injury.

According to court records, police found Russi’s Chevrolet S10 truck crashed and empty off Reibold Road in Forward Township about 11 p.m. Nov. 10.

At the same scene, authorities found an overturned Ford F-250 truck. The alleged driver of that truck, 28-year-old George Dale DiCicco II of Butler, and his passenger, Timothy Goerl, were found at the scene suffering from unknown injuries and were transported to a hospital.

A day later, Russi spoke with police and allegedly said that after spending the evening in Evans City with the people in the other truck, they tried to pass one another on the road when the accident occurred.

According to police reports, Russi said he passed out on a hillside after hitting his head in the accident. When he woke up, the vehicles were gone, and he was later picked up on Route 68 by his sister.

Russi was sentenced Thursday by Butler County Judge Timothy McCune. In addition to the probation, he must do 50 hours of community service. He also must pay $300 in fines and $5,600 in restitution.

Russi’s defense attorney, Leland Clark, declined to comment.

DiCicco still faces charges of suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, recklessly endangering another person, illegal racing, careless driving and reckless driving.
